DeLoreto Wins 2010 NEC Fall Scholar-Athlete Award for Women's Cross Country
(Fairfield, CT) - For the second straight year, Sacred Heart senior Cross Country and Track and Field star Kimberly DeLoreto (Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Hills) claims Northeast Conference Scholar-Athlete honors in women's cross country. The NEC announced its Fall Scholar-Athlete Award Winners Thursday afternoon.
After winning the 2009 individual crown, DeLoreto finished third with a time of 17:42.2 in the 2010 NEC Cross Country Championships en route to claiming All-NEC honors for the third time in her career. She also led the Pioneers to a third-place team standing at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT.
DeLoreto also won the ECAC Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, beating out 209 runners with a time of 18:01.6, nearly nine seconds better than her nearest competitor. She was named NEC Athlete of the Week twice this year, now totaling five times for her career. She was recognized on September 28 after winning the Father Leeber S.J. Invitational at Fairfield University and again on October 17 after finishing seventh at the Albany Invitational.
DeLoreto is the first Sacred Heart runner to earn All-New England, All-NEC, and All-East honors three times in her career. She also was named Enterprise Rent-A-Car Sacred Heart Student Athlete of the Week twice this season. The senior runner is a Psychology major who maintains a 3.92 grade point average.
