Fairfield, Conn. – The Sacred Heart Pioneers fell to the LIU Blackbirds in three sets Saturday night at the William H. Pitt Center. The Pioneers struggled offensively, managing just 22 total kills for the match, while committing 27 hitting errors. On the other side of the net, the LIU offense ran smoothly collecting 34 kills with only 5 hitting errors.
LIU dominated the opening two sets as they led each set by as many as 13 points with final scores of 25-11 in both sets. The third set proved to be the Pioneers best effort as they battled to a 10-10 tie on a kill from senior Elise Sage (Greenwood Village, Colo.). A five point serving run from LIU setter Vera Djuric forced a timeout by the Pioneers. The break did little to turn the tide as LIU won ten of the next fifteen points to bring the match to a close at 25-15.
The Pioneers hope to rebound tomorrow against St. Francis (NY) at 1:00 p.m.
