Elise Sage (Greenwood Village, CO) was named the Molten/NEC Co-Player of the Week and teammate Alisa Mesa (Long Beach, CA) was tabbed the Molten/NEC Co-Player of the week as the Pioneers posted a trio of 3-0 sweeps last week en route to capturing a share of their second consecutive NEC regular season title.
Sage will enter the NEC tournament after notching after registering a .523 hitting percentage in Sacred Heart's last week of regular season play. The six-foot middle currently leads the Pioneers with a .339 hitting percentage, which currently ranks fifth in the league. In the last 12 matches the junior has hit north of .350 and recorded at least seven kills. She also totaled 26 kills and 14 digs for the week.
Mesa posted the highest assist total in her young career as she notched 120 helpers over the course of the Pioneers 3-0 week. The freshman started off the week with a 43 assist outing against Columbia and followed it up with 38 helpers on the road against Saint Francis (PA). She rounded out the week with 39 assists in a regular season title clinching match versus Robert Morris in which the Pioneers offense fired on all cylinders. Mesa's second Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week honor bookends her freshman campaign nicely as she earned the honor in the first week of competition to begin the year.
Sacred Heart is a favorite to capture several postseason awards this Friday night at the annual awards banquet on the eve of the 2011 Northeast Conference Tournament. Check back here on www.SacredHeartPioneers.com to see which Pioneers will bring home some hardware.
