Elise Sage (Greenwood Village, CO) picked up her first Molten/NEC player of the week nod of the season as the Pioneers swept their way to a perfect 3-0 weekend and won the SHU Invitational for a second straight year. Sage was a four time player of the week last year and becomes the second Sacred Heart player to capture the honor in 2011 after Jessica Colberg (Long Beach, CA) garnered the season's inaugural award.
Sage opened the tournament in impressive fashion as the Pioneers knocked off Brown 3-0 Friday. Sage hit a blistering .692 without making a single error, struck for two aces at the service line, and posted a pair of blocks against the Bears.
Sage rounded out the weekend with a .512 hitting percentage overall, averaging 2.67 kills per set and making just two attacking miscues all weekend. The Colorado native was dominant at the net in the tournament's championship match as the six-foot middle player recorded five blocks against BIG EAST opponent Rutgers.
Sage and the Pioneers take on Connecticut tonight in Storrs before heading to Maryland for their third tournament of the season.
