The women's volleyball team gears up for a trio matches this weekend starting with a Friday showdown with non-conference opponent Army. The Pioneers will then play a home NEC game against St. Francis (NY) on Saturday before traveling to Central Connecticut State on Sunday.
Heading In... The Pioneers are currently riding the longest winning streak in program history, presently at 16 games. Sacred Heart has won 21 of its last 22 and started the Northeast Conference portion of the schedule a perfect 10-0. SHU has been especially dominant as of late, winning its last five matches 3-0. Last weekend saw the Pioneers travel to Bryant and Fairleigh Dickinson and come away with straight set victories.
Kidd-Kadlubek In National Rankings... Senior setter Courtney Kidd-Kadlubek currently sits 10th in the NCAA contributing 11.72 assists per set. In two matches last weekend the Santa Barbara, CA native dished out 82 helpers. Kidd-Kadlubek has been even more efficient in Northeast Conference matches, averaging 12.55 assists per set versus league opponents.
Sage Named Molten/NEC Co-Player of the Week... Elise Sage hit .567 in two Pioneer victories last weekend as the middle player earned her fourth Molten/Northeast Conference player of the week nod in 2010. Sage ranks second in the league swinging at .354 clip and has posted a hitting mark over .500 in seven matches this season. The sophomore smashed a weekend total of 25 kills committing just one error in a pair of SHU sweeps.
Scouting the Black Knights... Army is currently on a hot streak of its won, winning five in a row and eight of nine in conference play. Last weekend the Black Knights picked up a pair of road victories against Patriot League opponents Lafayette and Lehigh. Ariana Mankus paces the Army attack with 3.46 kills per set and a .228 hitting percentage in 2010.
