Women's Track & Field Come Out Strong In Day 1 Of NEC Championships

STATEN ISLAND, NY,- The Sacred Heart University women's track and field team came out strong on day one of the 2018 NEC Indoor Championships at the Ocean Breaze Track & Field Center, winning two trial, that included a sweep of the top-three spots in the 3000 meter run.

SHU finished in second place with 34 points behind St. Francis University in first with 39 points.

Results:

Kate Svensen won the 3000 meter trial. SHU took the first, second and third spots as Lindsay Lucas placed second and Tara Connelly in third. Emma Cary finished in ninth.

Caroline Conte won the 800 meter trial. SHU performed strongly in the prelims with Jaqueline Throne placing fourth, Hannah Chanberlin in fifth and Bianca De Lucia in eigthh.

Tara Connelly placed fifth in the one mile trial. Lindsay Lucas placed seventh and Jody DiCicco finished tenth.

Adriana Forcucci placed tenth in the 60 meter trial

Selina Sampieri finished in sixth in the pole vault trial with Amy Vegliante in ninth

Devyn King placed ninth in the long jump trial

Kathryn Matrisciano placed fourth in the shot put trial. Kristina Klemenz placed in sixth with Samantha Curran in tenth.

The Pioneers will resume action on Saturday Feb. 17 at 9am for the finals. Finals of the track events can be seen live on NECFrontRow.
