Smith, Jean-Louis, and Peterson Set to Compete at NCAA Regional in Outdoor Track and Field

(Jacksonville, FL) – Three members of the Sacred Heart University Outdoor Track and Field team - Athalia Smith (New Britain, CT), Bertony Jean-Louis (Norwalk, CT), and Patrick Peterson (Gloversville, NY) - are set to compete at the NCAA East Regional at the University of North Florida this weekend, May 24-26.  Athletes qualify by recording one of the top 48 scores in their events throughout the season.

Smith finished 13th in the Women's Hammer Throw with a distance of 60.12m, an even better distance then her NEC Championship gold medal throw of 57.33m.  This competition is scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 pm.

Jean-Louis goes into the East Regional 27th in the Men's 110-Meter Hurdles with a time of 14.03s, which he set with a conference record setting gold medal win at the NEC Championships.  The first round of this event is scheduled for Friday at 5:00 pm, followed by the quarterfinal not long after at 6:30 pm.

Peterson will compete in the Men's 800 Meter Run, in which he is ranked 42nd with a time of 1:49.81.  The first round of this event is scheduled for Thursday at 8:10 pm, while the quarterfinal is scheduled for Friday at 7:00 pm.

All three athletes are competing to advance to NCAA Championship at Drake University in Des Moines, IA June 6-9.
