Pioneers Back in Win Column, 6-1 Over Siena

NEW HAVEN, CT (February 26, 2012) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis ended a four-match losing streak with a 6-1 win over Siena Saturday night at the Yale Indoor Tennis facility. 

SHU took the doubles point and won five of the six singles matches for the win. 

Seniors Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) and Kristina Chao (Needham, MA) teamed to win at #1 doubles, beating Jasleen Sandhu and Carly Holloway 8-2.  The team of sophomore Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) and senior Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) clinched the point with an 8-1 win over Jessica Macaluso and Cassandra Braz.

Kaldan started the singles wins with a three set decision over Sandhu at #1.  Kaldan dropped the first set 6-4 but rebounded for a 6-1 and 6-2 win.  Freshman Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) won at #2, 6-3 and 6-1 over Holloway.  Donnelly beat Brittany Filip 6-4 and 6-2 at #3.

The Pioneers finsihed out the victory with Chao and Downing earning wins at #4 and #5.  Chao posted a 6-1 and 6-3 win over Danielle Crill.  Downing dropped the first set 6-1 and then won 6-1 and 10-7 against Macaluso.

SHU moves on to their annual Spring Trip, heading down to Orlando, FL for four matches against Robert Morris, South Dakota State, Creighton and Evansville.
