FAIRFIELD, CT - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team posted a 6-1 win over Northeast Conference foe Monmouth on Tuesday, in what will be the Pioneers only dual match action this fall. SHU posted three 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles play and swept the doubles action en route to the NEC win.
Sophomore Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) led the singles charge with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the #1 slot, beating Nicole Lippens. Kaldan and senior Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) teamed at #2 doubles and posted an 8-2 win over Ashley Sandler and Dana Ferrari. Downing also won in singles play, posting a 6-0, 6-0 win over Liz D'Arcy at #5.
Senior Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) won her #2 singles match 6-3 and 10-5 after dropping the first set, 6-2, to Brooke Verdiglione. Fellow senior Kristina Chao (Needham, MA) won at #4, 6-0, 6-0 over Ferrari and teamed with Donnelly for an 8-0 win at #1 doubles over Lippens and Verdiglione.
Freshman Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) collected the Pioneers other singles win, beating Sandler at #3, 6-0, 6-4. Rydzewski and senior Kristin Legenza (Berlin, CT) posted an 8-1 win at #3 doubles over Sara Turner and D'Arcy.
The Pioneer women will close out the fall portion of their schedule this weekend at the ITA Regional Championships at Yale University.
