Kalden and Legenza Lead Pioneers at Quinnipiac Invitational
HAMDEN, CT - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team took part in the three-day Quinnipiac Invitational over the weekend. Sophomore Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) and senior Kristin Legenza (Berlin, CT) led the Pioneers advancing into the semifinal rounds of their respective singles flights.
Kalden won her opening match in "A" Singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Fairfield's Carolina Koladzyn and beat Quinnipiac's Rachel Cantor in a three-set battle in the quarterfinal round. Kalden won the first set 6-2, dropped the second 7-6 (2) and won the tie breaker 10-8. She was kept out of the final by UConn's Jennifer Learmouth, 6-4, 6-4.
Legenza defeated Emily Willhoft of Hartford in her first match, 7-5, 6-1, in the "D" Singles Flight. She lost to Anna Guryanova of Seton Hall, 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinal round.
Freshman Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) won her opening singles match in the "B" Singles Flight, beating Hartford's Haley Gileau, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Maggie Tooley (Cheshire, CT) earned a win in her opening round match as well, beating Hartford's Christie Greenberg in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 10-3 in "C" Singles.
