WEST HARTFORD, CT (April 2, 2011) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team posted their second road win this week heading up state to take down the University of Hartford, 7-0. The Pioneers are 10-3 on the year while posting their third 7-0 win this year.
Sacred Heart didn't drop a set in singles play starting with junior Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) who won 6-3, 7-5 over Katina Zampas at #1. Donnelly posted her team leading 12th singles win on the year. Senior Elizabeth Harrington (Westerly, RI) beat Maggie Sabatino, 6-3, 6-1, at #2 and freshman Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) won her #3 singles match 6-0, 6-1 over Nicole Haynal. Kaldan is 7-3 in her last 10 singles matches and owns a 9-3 record playing at #3 this season.
Senior Darcy Demers (Norton, MA) blanked her opponent, Ashley Harel, 6-0, 6-0, at #5 singles to improve to 8-2 over her last 10 matches. Junior Kristina Chao (Needham, MA) won 6-4, 6-1 over Kaitlin Lennon at #5 and raised her record to 7-3 over her last 10. Junior Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) closed out the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Haley Gileau.
In doubles play, Demers and Kaldan beat Zampas and Sabatino, 8-3 at #1. Chao and Harrington topped Lennone Gileau 8-1 at #2 and Downing and Donnelly won 8-1 as well at #3 to make it a clean sweep. The team of Downing and Donnelly won their eighth-straight doubles match on Saturday and own an impressive 13-3 mark this year.
The Pioneers are back on the road on Sunday with a trip to UMass on the schedule
