
ALBANY, NY (March 19, 2011) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team saw their five-match winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon, falling at the University at Albany, 6-1. The Pioneers are now 8-2 on the season in dual match action.
The Pioneers lone point on the day came at #6 singles where junior Delaney Downing (Englwood, CO) posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Rachel Drake. Downing teamed with junior Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) to pick up a doubles win at #3, beating Sarah Iannone and Drake, 8-4.
Senior Darcy Demers (Norton, MA) and Donnelly both lost tough three-set battles in singles play. Donnelly fell at #1 to Susan Ma, winning the first set 6-4 before losing 6-3, 6-1. Demers lost her #4 singles match to Iannone 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-4.
The Pioneers will host a pair of Northeast Conference opponents next weekend facing Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday and Long Island on Saturday.
