Marshall Breaks Pool Record in 200-Fly at Siena

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University swimming team fell at non-conference foe Siena, 129-80, Saturday afternoon.  Senior Katie Marshall (Cumberland, R.I.) took first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a pool record time of 2:08.31. 

The Pioneers swept the 200-yard breaststroke with sophomore Stephanie Walters (Wanaque, N.Y.), junior Laurie Casado (Queens, N.Y.), and freshman Caitlyn Hracs (Trumbull, Conn.) placing one through three.  Walters posted the best time in the event at 2:32.54.  She was followed by Casado, nearly eight second later, at 2:40.93 and Hracs at 2:41.50.

Marshall also finished second in the 200-free as she hit the wall in 2:01.33.  She also swam the second leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay team.  Along with teammates sophomore Rachel McGrath (Dorchester, Mass.) and freshmen Nicole Del Nero (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) and Liz Bennett (Fairbanks, Alaska) the relay team came in first with a time of 1:46.54.

Del Nero also claimed second and third place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke and freestyle.  She was second in the 200-back with a time of 2:16.81, while posting a 2:02.42 to take third in the 200-free.  Bennett also claimed a third place finish as she swam the 200-fly in 2:20.40.

The Sacred Heart swim team returns to action after the change of the calendar as the Pioneers visit NEC opponent Bryant on January 19.
