SHU Swimming Falls to Intrastate Rival CCSU

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University swimming team took a 115-83 Northeast Conference loss at Central Connecticut, Saturday afternoon.  Senior Katie Marshall (Cumberland, R.I.) won the 400-yard butterfly in 4:31.51.

Junior Stephanie Walters (Wanaque, N.Y.) posted a victory in the 400-yard breaststroke with a winning time of 5:34.38.  Classmate Laurie Casado (Queens, N.Y.) finished a close second, coming in at 5:40.35.

Junior Meghan Bailey (Walpole, Mass.) took first place in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:48.83.  Fellow junior Allison Thurston (Berlin, Conn.) placed second in the 400 IM as she hit the wall in 4:58.05.

In the 800-yard IM, freshman Liz Bennett (Fairbanks, Alaska) finished second with a time of 10:08.94, while Thurston finished third at 10:16.45.

The Pioneers return to action next weekend when they compete in the Frank Elm Invitational, hosted by Rutgers University, November 19-21.
