Taylor Froelich (Garden Grove, CA) hit at a .467 clip over eight games in Florida to become the second straight Pioneer to be named the Akadema/Northeast Conference player of the week. Froelich was not struck out in 31 at bats during the Rebel Games, where SHU posted a 4-4 record, as the leadoff hitter also launched two homers. The senior center fielder went a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish against Pennsylvania and drove in the only run of a 1-0 win over Holy Cross with a RBI single.
During a three game stretch in the middle of the week Froelich was 8-of-12 with three RBI and two extra base hits. She opened a 9-2 win versus Temple with a solo homer in the first inning. Froelich closed the week with a .733 slugging percentage and currently ranks second in the NEC in runs scored, crossing the plate 12 times in 2011. Froelich claims player of the week honors after classmate Courtney Lee (Camarillo, CA) earned the same award last week.
Froelich and the Pioneers will play in the Northeast for the first time in 2011 next weekend as they compete in the Seton Hall Pirate Classic March 18-20.
