New Britain, CT – The Sacred Heart women's soccer team defeated Central Connecticut 1-0 Sunday afternoon to clinch a berth in the NEC tournament. Sophomore forward Kristin Verrette (Saugus, MA) broke through in the 86th minute to give the Pioneers the victory in a game they needed to win in order to make the NEC tournament.

Senior goalie Sydney Judkins (South Park, PA) made three saves on the afternoon, recording her third straight shutout to close out the season.

Sacred Heart is entering the NEC tournament on a hot streak, finishing the season winning three straight 1-0 games. The Pioneers are 5-1-1 in their last 7 games.

The NEC tournament will be held next weekend at Saint Francis (PA), the tournament's number one seed. The Pioneers were defeated by Saint Francis (PA) last season in the semi-finals of the NEC tournament, a game that was decided in penalty kicks.
