Fairfield, Conn.—The Sacred Heart Women's Soccer Team picked up their third win of the season against Cornell Friday afternoon improving their record to 3-4. Senior Jen Mulvey (Manalapan, N.J.) and rookie Dana Cosmedy (Monroe, Conn.) recorded the Pioneers' goals in the 2-1 win.
The Pioneers' offense came out strong in the first half, outshooting the Big Red 9-2, five of which were on goal, Cornell held off SHU not allowing a goal. Due to a strong offense, Goalkeeper Sydney Judkins (South Park, Penn.) recorded a shutout half, her third of the season.
All of the game's action came within an eight-minute span in the second half. Sacred Heart's leading scorer, Mulvey, kicked off scoring. In the 49th minute of the game, she blocked Cornell's clear attempt 30 yards out of goal before sending the ball to the back of the net from 20 yards away to give SHU the advantage.
Just over two minutes later, Cornell's Claire MacManus tied the game. Off a corner kick from senior Maneesha Chitanvis, MacManus headed the ball from ten yards away past Pioneer Goalkeeper Thalia Schwartz (Roslyn, N.Y.).
Cosmedy tapped in the game-winner in the 57th minute. Sophomore Kristen Verrette (Saugus, Mass.) went wide left and slip a perfect cross for Cosmedy to push in towards the far post.
