Pioneers Tabbed Fourth in Preseason Poll

Fairfield, Conn.—Kim Banner's Pioneers were voted to finish fourth in this year's Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll released Monday. Last season's No. 1 seed, the Red Flash of Saint Francis (PA), were picked again to finish atop the NEC.

The women's soccer team, who finished fourth in the conference last year making it to the tournament for the first time since 2007, fell to the Red Flash in the semifinal round of 4-3 in penalty kicks after playing to a scoreless draw.

Jen Mulvey (Manalapan, N.J.) was tabbed as Sacred Heart's Player to Watch. The senior made the All-Conference Team in her 2011 campaign. She ranked second on the team with five goals and one assist.

The Pioneers welcome 10 fresh faces to help get them into the tournament once again. Sacred Heart starts the 2012 season on Aug. 22 against Utah Valley in Hawaii 1:00 a.m. EST.
