WEST WINDSOR, NJ - The Sacred Heart rowing team competed at this weekend's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, NJ. The Drake Unversity women's team and Marist College men took home the team titles at this year's event.
The Pioneers turned in a strong weekend of racing despite the fact they could not race the varsity and junior varsity 8+ due to injuries. SHU did capture a gold medal in the women's LW 4+.
The boat of junior Danielle Palmaccio (East Moriches, NY), senior Danielle French (Northport, NY), junior Lynn Ciccarelli (Holmdel, NJ, sophomore Kaitlyn Blanda (Huntington, NY) and junior Kaitlin Rivest (Ludlow, MA) captured the gold ahead of Iona with a time of 8:11.0, winning by 200 meters.
The SHU Novice 4+ boat of freshman J.Smith (Middletown, CT) freshman Allison McCusker (Hingham, MA), junior Jensen Richert (Iselin, NJ), freshman Sarissa Masucci (North Andover, MA) and junior Chiara Zambelli (Lebanon, NJ) finished third bringing home the bronze medal in the a field of nine teams. The Pioneers posted a time of 8:16.5, finishing behind just champion Drake and Fairfield.
SHU's open 4+ had a great race finishing fourth and missing the bronze medal by a bow ball.
This was the last race of the season for majority of the team members. The LTW 4+ and Novice 4+ will stay in training and compete in the Dad Vail Regatta on May 11th and 12th in Philadelphia.
