The Sacred Heart rowing team is putting the finishing touches on their 2011 season and competed at the Metropolitan Spring Regatta at Orchard Beach Lagoon over the weekend. The Pioneers had 15 rowers compete at the event with 13 bringinning home a medal at the event.
This weekend's race was the last for senior Devon Clark (Hawthorne, NJ) and it also marked the debut for freshman Courtney Muscat. For most of the Pioneers, the race marked the last of the season.
Sacred Heart had an excellent showing winning a silver medal in the women's varsity 4 and a bronze medal in the women's varsity 8 races. SHU's novice 4 boat just missed the finals by few seconds but gained valuable experience.
"It is a great end of the season for our program," said head coach Nicoleta Mantescu. "We still have an important race on May 13th and 14th in Philadelphia." For that race the Pioneers will have a lightweight 4 and an open 4 boat at the events.
