SHU Win's With Dramatic Late Goal

SHELTON, Conn.—  The Sacred Heart women's hockey earned a 4-3 win over Franklin Pierce on Saturday night at the Sports Center of Connecticut. Jayne Lewis scored the game winning goal with 38 seconds left in the third period. 

SHU again shared the goals around with Marissa Letizio, Maddie Bishop, Taylor MorelandJayne Lewis all finding the back of the net.

After a scorless first period, SHU scored two in the second period. Letizio got the scoring going with her goal at 5:32 and Olivia Bryant adding the second for the Pioneers at the 11:04 mark assisted by Maddie Bishop.

SHU would take a three goal lead at the begining of the third with Taylor Moreland scoring, assisted by Lewis and Bryant.

Franklin Pierce fought back, scoring three consecutive goals to tied the game.

The Pioneers followed that up with a two-goal second period as Letizio picked up the goal from the blue line at 3:19. Moreland followed that up with her goal at 4:26 from the assists by Payne and Jayne Lewis

The third period belonged to the Ravens who picked up three goals in the final period of regulation. SHU penalties allowed Franklin Pierce to get within one as Nicole Amato and Alex Brolsma netted power play goals. Kara Santaro scored the first for FPU at the 6:42 mark with senior captain Alex Brolsma scoring two goals in as many minutes to tied the game at 3-1

SHU earned its second power play goal in the final minute of the third period and took full advantage, Taylor Moreland and akatie Stueve combining to assist Jayne Lewis for the game winner.

The Pioneers are back in action on Tuesday Nov. 21 with a 7:00 start at  the Sports Center of Connecticut.
