Gorham, ME – The Sacred Heart women's hockey team (10-8-2) scored four unanswered goals to throttle the Southern Maine Huskies (3-4-4), 4-1. The Pioneers are now two games over .500 and have an unbeaten streak of five games in a row.
The Huskies scored their only goal of the game at 3:27 of the first period, an unassisted goal by sophomore Maggie Lane. From there, it was all Pioneers the rest of the way, closing the game with four straight goals. Sacred Heart's first goal was at 10:09 in the first period by sophomore Casey Stathopoulos (Waltham, MA), her team leading 12th goal of the season. Stathopoulos was assisted by sophomore Melissa Robbins (Nashua, NH).
The second Period saw the Pioneers take the 2-1 lead at 8:42 with a goal by sophomore Natasha Klinoff (Concord, MA), her seventh goal of the season. Klinoff was assisted by Robbins and sophomore Alex Davis (Pembroke, MA).
The Pioneers would put the finishing touches in the third period with two final frame goals. The first coming at 9:26, when sophomore Davis found the back of the net to take the 3-1 lead. Davis was assisted by Klinoff and sophomore Catherine Chittick (Hingham, MA). Davis would put the exclamation on the victory with her second goal of the game, an empty netter at 19:26 to make the final deficit 4-1. The goal was Davis' sixth goal of the year.
The Pioneers hit the ice again this weekend when they face-off against Holy Cross at the Rutland Herald Invitational.
