Robbins' Hat Trick Leads Women's Hockey to 5-3 Win over Wesleyan

(Middletown, CT) – Melissa Robbins led the Pioneers with a hat trick, as the Sacred Heart Women's Hockey team beat the Wesleyan Cardinals 5-3 Saturday afternoon.

Robbins set the tone for a special day with a goal 24 seconds into the game.  Casey Stathopoulos assisted the first goal, then made it 2-0 at 10:13 with assists going to Sara Hanna and Robbins. Meaghan Souza extended SHU's lead to 3-0 at 14:10, assisted by Alex Davis.

The Cardinals got on the board at 16:09 on a goal by Jordan Schildhaus, with Laura Mead and Cara Jankowski assisting.  However, Robbins netted what proved to be the game winning goal with one second remaining in the first to reestablish a three goal lead, with Davis earning another assist.

Wesleyan cut the deficit to one thanks to goals by Becca Koppel at 1:22 of the second and Schildhaus at 12:20 of the third, but Robbins iced the game with a short-handed empty-netter with 33 seconds left in the game.

Mandy Montgomery earned the win with 32 saves in net for the Pioneers.
