(Bridgeport), CT) – The Sacred Heart Women's Hockey team completed a two-game weekend sweep at home over the Rhode Island Rams Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 victory at the Wonderland of Ice.
After a scoreless first period, SHU scored three times in the second. Jennifer Hasson (Orangeville, ON) opened the scoring at 4:48, following a shot by Cara Curran (Westfield, MA) for a rebound goal. Catherine Chittick (Hingham, MA) made it 2-0 at 8:43 on a top-shelf wrist shot, with assists going to Alanna Woodford (Scituate, MA) and Sarah Delaney (Whitman, MA). Briana Connolly (Duxbury, MA) followed at 18:32, crashing the net to knock in a rebound on a shot by Megan Ofner (Hamilton, NJ) set up on a pass by Woodford.
URI got on the board in the third on goal by Cassondra Catlow, set up by Sydney Collins and Kristen Levesque at 3:29. However, SHU added insurance at 12:23 on a blast from the point by Chittick for her second of the game after a face off win by Curran.
Mandy Montgomery (Grand Ledge, MI) earned the win in net, making 17 saves in 52:23 of action. Nicole Magee (Burlington, MA) stopped all seven shots she face to close out the last 7:37 of the game. Sacred Heart outshot Rhode Island 55-25 for the game.
The Pioneers are in action again next weekend for a two-game series with Penn State at home, beginning Friday, October 19 at 7:00 pm.
