Palazzo Leads SHU with Four Goals to 5-3 Victory on Senior Day

(Bridgeport, CT) – Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, CT) saved her best game for last.  The senior captain scored four goals on senior night, and fellow classmate Jamie Mey (Middletown, RI) added another as the Sacred Heart Women's Hockey team beat SUNY-Potsdam 5-3 in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon at the Wonderland of Ice.

Mey opened the scoring 1:17 into the game, with Maura Leahy (Ashburnham, MA) picking up the assist.  Brittany Lucky tied the game for Potsdam on the power play at 11:23, with helpers going to Breanna Roy and Annmarie Lewis.  Palazzo scored her first to put SHU back on top on the power play at 15:10, set up by Tara Kent (Glenview, IL) and Catie Ladner (Chaska, MN).

Palazzo picked up from there in the second period, scoring again on a power play goal set up by Jennifer Burroughs at 8:06.  Palazzo made it a hat trick at 16:57, again on the power play with Alex Savis and Burroughs assisting.

Izzy Fayerman got one back for Potsdam 27 seconds later, and Roy scored unassisted at 9:38 of the third to cut SHU's lead to one.  However, Palazzo capped off her career day with her fourth of the game at 14:56, with Kent and Melissa Robbins (Nashua, NH) setting her up.

Raelene Sydor (St. Albert, AB) earned the victory in her last regular season game as a Pioneer, making 30 saves for her third career win.  Kent, Mey, Caitlin Gottwold, Erin Burke, Burroughs, Palazzo, Lauren Towers, and Sydor all were honored in a special pregame senior day ceremony.
