Bridgeport, CT- The Sacred Heart women's hockey team fell to Lindenwood University, 4-0, Friday in the first contest of a two game series. The Lady Lions scored early in both the first and second periods to build an advantage that would lead them to a victory.
Lindenwood (5-21-0) got on the board early, when Sarah Oliphant scored 1:22 into the game on an assist from Amy Stober. The Lady Lions and Pioneers would skate scoreless for the rest of the period.
Sacred Heart (8-13-1) would fall behind 2-0 quickly in the second period Caitlyn Post scored 1:22 into the second period on a pass from Kendra Broad. The Lions made it 3-0, 5:01 later when Allysson Arcibal on assists from Katie Erickson and Brett Lobreau.
The Lions iced the game with one more goal in the third period when Allison Wickenheiser scored on a pass from Sydney Gorzitza with 3:48 remaining in the game.
Alexius Schutt (Elk River, MN) made 34 saves in goal for the Pioneers, while her counterpart Taylor Fairchild saved all 25 Pioneer shots for her first shutout of the season.
The Pioneers look to snap their three game losing streak Saturday when they face Lindenwood again at 2:00 at the Wonderland of Ice.
