Women's Hockey Falls 3-2 in OT to Penn State on Late Goal
(Bridgeport, CT) – The Sacred Heart Women's Hockey team fell 3-2 in overtime to Penn State Saturday afternoon at the Wonderland of Ice.
Sara Chroman opened the scoring for the Lady Icers, knocking in a puck to a wide-open net that bounced of the end board in front as Alexius Schutt (Elk River, MN) went to play the dump in. Lydia Scott and Allie Rothman earned the assists at 9:37 of the first.
It remained that way until Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, CT) tied the game with seven seconds remaining in the second, winning the face off to herself for an unassisted power play goal.
Jess Desorice gave Penn State the lead again just 15 seconds into the third, assisted by Madison Smiddy and Taylor Gross. Palazzo, however, tied it again with her second of the game at 11;28, assisted by Caitlin Gottwald (Reading, MA).
Schutt stoped a penalty shot a minute into overtime, but Tess Weaver won it with 16 left, with Gross and Lisa Frank assisting the game-winning goal.
The Pioneers travel to Salve Regina on Tuesday, January 17 for a 7:00 pm faceoff.
