Women's Hockey Splits Series with Neumann

(Bridgeport, CT) – The Sacred Heart Women's Hockey team split a weekend series with Neumann this weekend, winning Saturday night 4-3 and losing 3-2 Sunday afternoon at the Wonderland of Ice.

The Pioneers opened the weekend with three goals in the first period.  Sara Hanna opened the scoring at 8:45, with an assist going to Jamie Mey (Middletown, RI).  Melissa Robbins (Nashua, NH) made it 2-0 SHU at 12:21, set up by Tara Kent.  After Neumann got on the board on a goal by Olivia Pryzbylkowski, SHU got that goal back on an unassisted goal by Alex Davis (Pembroke, MA) at 17:48.

Neumann came back to tie the game with two goals in the second, one by Kayla Dubowski at 7:26 and another by Amanda Simpson at 14:51.  However, the Pioneers prevailed on a third-period shorthanded goal by Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, CT) for the game-winner at 11:02, with Sarah Delaney (Whittman, MA) earning the assist.  Alexius Schutt (Elk River, MN) made 35 saves for the victory.

On Sunday, Neumann jumped to a 3-0 lead behind a goal by Dianne Peters 1:12 into the game and second period goals by Edie Brenning , set up by Kayla Dubowski , at 4:08 and an unassisted goal by Ang Gilmour at 12:14.

Once again, Palazzo scored a shorthanded goal, this time unassisted, to put SHU on the board at 16:25 of the second.  Caitlin Gottwald (Reading, MA) scored an unassisted goal at 15:47 to cut the deficit to one, but that is as close as SHU would get.   Schutt made 34 saves for the game.
