Women's Hockey Team Sees Four-Game Winning Streak End with 7-2 Loss to Bowdoin

(Boston, MA) – The Sacred Heart Women's Hockey team saw their four-game winning streak come to an end with a 7-2 loss against Bowdoin in the first day of the Cod Fish Bowl, hosted by UMass-Boston.

Melissa Robbins (Nashua, NH) scored twice for the Pioneers, and has now scored five goals in the last three games.  However, Kim Tess-Wanat recorded a hat trick to lead Bowdoin.  After assisting the first goal of the game by Maddie Bard at 5:43, Tess-Wanat scored at 8:13 and 10:44 to give Bowdoin a 3-0 lead after one.  Kayte Holtz made it 4-0 with a power play goal 44 seconds into the second period, followed by Tess-Wanat's third goal at 2:42.  Chelsea MacNeil made it 6-0 at 12:39.

Robbins put SHU on the board at 17:38 of the second, with Tara Kent (Glenview, IL) and Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, CT) assisting.  Palazzo picked up another helper on Robbins' second goal at 6:19 of the third, but Stephanie Ludy notched Bowdoin's seventh goal at 8:44 of the third.

Raelene Sydor (St. Albert, AB) played well in goal in relief, making 24 saves on 26 shots after coming into the game 2:42 into the second period.

Sacred Heart takes on Wesleyan in the consolation game of the tournament Tuesday, January 3 at 1:00 pm.
