Women's Hockey Completes Sweep of Wesleyan with 3-2 WIn

(Middletown, CT) – The Sacred Heart Women's Hockey team completed a two-game weekend sweep of the Wesleyan Cardinals, being them 3-2 Saturday afternoon on the road.

The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead into the locker room through one period, with Caitlin Gottwald (Reading, MA) and Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, CT) both finding the back of the net.  Gottwald scored unassisted at 11:34, while Palazzo added a second SHU Goal on assists from Catie Ladner (Chaska, MN) and Tara Kent (Glenview, IL) at 17:39.

Kelsey Muller cut the Cardinal deficit in half with an unassisted goal at 13:10 of the second, then tied it in the third on a goal by Glenn Hartman Mattson, with helpers to Mackenzie McPike and Jenna Vanderlinden at 6:12.

However, the Pioneers took the lead for good on a game-winning goal by Meaghan Souza (Wilmington, PA), assisted by Jamie Mey (Middletown, RI ), at 10:45.

Alexius Schutt (Elk River, MN) made 34 saves for the win in net for Sacred Heart.
