Mey Scores Twice, Ladner's 3rd Period Goal Lifts Women's Hockey to 4-2 Win Over Wesleyan

(Bridgeport, CT) – Jamie Mey (Middletown, RI) scored two goals to lead the Sacred Heart Women's Hockey team to a 4-2 victory over Wesleyan Friday night at the Wonderland of Ice.

Mey put SHU on the board first late in the first, scoring a shorthanded goal at 17:52 on an assist from Maura Leahy (Ashburnham, MA).  She made it 2-0 Pioneers very early in the second, scoring 18 seconds into the middle period on a goal set up by Sarah Hanna and Caitlin Gottwald (Reading, MA).

The Cardinals answered with goals by Kelsey Muller at 1:20 and Jordan Schildhaus at 15:20 to tie the game.  However, the Pioneers went up for good on a power play goal by Catie Ladner (Chaska, MN), assisted by Sarah Delaney (Whittman, MA) and Alana Woodford (Scituate, MA), at 5:42 of the third.  Gottwald made it a two-point night with an unassisted goal to provide insurance at 8:17.

Alexius Schutt (Elk River, MN) made 31 saves, including 12 in the final period, to earn the victory.

Sacred Heart travels to Wesleyan in the back end of a home-and-home series Saturday, December 10 at 2:00 pm
