(Bridgeport, CT) – Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, CT) scored twice, as the Sacred Heart University Women's Hockey team beat the Williams Ephs 5-2 Saturday afternoon at the Wonderland of Ice.
Catie Ladner (Chaska, MN) put SHU up early with an unassisted goal on a wrist shot from the right point to make it 1-0 Pioneers 3:02 into the period. Palazzo scored the next two goals for SHU, a shorthanded goal assisted by Meghan Souza (Wilmington, MA) at 7:33 of the second and an unassisted even strength goal at 11:50 of the second. Sam Weinstein got the Ephs on the board with 2:10 remaining in the period, but Tara Kent got that goal back with 1:08 left in the second, with Palazzo picking up the helper.
Caitlin Gottwald (Reading, MA) scored on the power play 4:04 into the third to make it 5-1 SHU. Cristina Bravi put one more on the board for Williams at 14:05, one of only two shots to get past Alexius Schutt (Elk River, MN). The Pioneer goalie made 50 saves on the afternoon for the victory.
The Pioneers are back in action Wednesday night at the Wonderland of Ice, hosting Brown at 7:00 p.m.
