(Bridgeport, CT) – The Nichols College Bison used three third period goals to pull away from the Sacred Heart University Women's Hockey team in a 6-2 win over the Pioneers at the Wonderland of Ice Saturday afternoon. Jaime Mey and Nicole Palazzo scored for SHU, but Mandy Manopla's hat trick led the Bison to their first win of the year.
Nichols took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission on goals by Mary Fehr and Megan Gerin. The Pioneers responded in the second with back-to-back goals to tie it. Mey scored at 2:29, with assists going to Meghan Souza and Sara Hanna. Palazzo buried a rebound to tie the game at 12:50, following a point shot shot by Sarah Delaney set up Tara Kent.
The Bison, however, went up for good on a short-handed goal by Manopla at 16:14, who converted a turnover for the game-winner. Nichols added insurance early in the final period. Fehr scored her second on a 5-3 power play 25 seconds into the third. Manopla completed her hat trick with goals at 2:30 and 4:07.
The Pioneers are next in action Tuesday, November 22 at 4:00 p.m.
