(Fairfield, CT) – The Sacred Heart University Women's Hockey team lost 8-1 to the Maine Black Bears Saturday afternoon to conclude a two-game weekend series to begin the season.
Jamie Mey (Middletown, RI) scored the Pioneers' first goal of the season with one second remaining in the second period, with assists going to Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, CT) and Alana Woodford (Scituate, MA). For Woodford, the assist marked the freshman's collegiate point.
The Black Bears built a 4-0 lead after one period on even-strength goals by Myriam Crousette and Danielle Ward, a short-handed goal by Dawn Sullivan, and a power-play goal by Jennifer More. Croussette scored a power play goal in the second, followed by another goal by More. Dominique Goutsis and Sullivan added goals in the third.
Maine outshot SHU 72-10, but freshman goalie Alexis Molotky (Zeeland, MI) made an astounding 64 saves in her collegiate debut.
The Pioneers are not in action again until October 8 when they play at Union at 4:00 p.m.
