ASTON, Pa. – The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team fell to host Neumann in the championship match-up of this weekend's Neumann Holiday Tournament, 6-2 Sunday evening. The Knights held a 4-1 advantage in the first period, including Brittany Metcalfe's goal at 17:29 that would hold up as the game winner.
The Pioneers dropped to 4-15-0 on the season, while Neumann lifted its season record to 7-4-2.
Diane Peters notched the only goal of the second period with her second score of the night to put the Knights up 5-1 heading into the break.
Senior Kristina Hankins (Lexington, Mass.) recorded her fourth goal of the weekend 3:37 into the third to cut the Neumann lead to 5-2. In the final minute, Peters completed the hat trick with an empty net goal to ice the four-goal victory.
Freshman Alexius Schutt (Elk River, Minn.) made 37 saves in net for the Pioneers. In goal for the Knights, Shannon Donnelly provided 25 stops to earn the win.
Sacred Heart takes to the ice again this Tuesday as the Pioneers take on Salve Regina at the Wonderland of Ice at 7:00 pm.
