Sacred Heart Stumbles in Second Period

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team continues to struggle to put the puck in the net as it suffered a 3-0 loss at Union, Friday evening.  The Dutchwomen netted all three of their goals in the second period to trip up the Pioneers.

Freshman Stefanie Thomson notched the first score of the game at the 5:01 mark of the second frame.  Union tacked on two more within the next four minutes as junior forward Lauren Hoffman scored an even strength and a shorthanded goal.

Sacred Heart freshman netminder Alexius Schutt (Elk River, Minn.) made 65 saves in just her fourth collegiate contest.  Between the pipes for the Dutchwomen, junior Kate Gallagher started and made eight saves in the victory.

Union outshot Sacred Heart 68-12 for the game.

The Pioneers are back in action as they host Saint Anselm on October 30 at 2:00 pm for its home opener at the Wonderland of Ice.
