MILFORD, CT (October 23, 2011) - The Pioneer women's golf team sits in first place with a three-stroke lead after the first 18-holes of the Sacred Heart Fall Classic at Great River Golf Course on Sunday. The Pioneers posted a team score of 327 to lead Long Island (330) in the eight team field.
The Monmouth Hawks are in third with a 336 followed by Boston University (350), Hartford (352), Central Connecticut (360), Quinnipiac (386) and Holy Cross (388). The annual event will close out play on Monday with 18-holes on the par 72, 6,148 yard course.
LIU's Anna Palsson leads the field after shooting a 74 on Sunday afternoon. Monmouth's Kelsi Kavanagh sits four strokes back after carding a 78. The Pioneers top-golfer on Sunday was senior Michelle Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) who sits third on the leaderboard after shooting a 79.
Junior Gabriella Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) and senior Carly Bergin (Binghamton, NY) sit tied for eighth overall with matching scores of 82 in round one. Sophomore Jennifer Clinton (Sayville, NY) is 13th after shooting 84.
