SOMERSET, N.J. - Sophomore Gabriella Riber (Stockholm, Sweden) capped off a spectacular 2010-'11 season by earning a spot on the All-Northeast Conference First Team for the second consecutive season. Junior Carly Bergin (Binghamton, N.Y.) represents the Sacred Heart women's golf team as a member of the All-NEC Second Team.
Riber led the Pioneers to a second place finish at the NEC Championship, April 21-23, finishing tied for fourth with a three-day score of 232 (78-81-73), as SHU claimed second place. She boasts a 78.64 stroke average and was named the NEC Golfer of the Week for the weeks ending October 20 and March 9. Riber's highest finish of the season came in the fall at the Rutgers Invitational when she took first in a field of 20 teams with a 155 (79-76).
Bergin earned three top-three finishes throughout the season including a third place finish at the ECAC Championship, with a 144 (74-70), that led Sacred Heart to an ECAC Championship victory. Twice, she earned the NEC Golfer of the Week award for the weeks ending October 6 and 27. At the NEC Championship, she finished 10th overall with a 243 (78-86-79).
Fairleigh Dickinson senior Michelle Holzwarth was named the NEC Golfer of the Year for the second straight season and third time in her four year career. She finished 15th at the conference championship as the Knights clinched a fourth straight NEC title. Saint Francis (PA) freshman Ann Colligan was named the league's Rookie of the Year, while Wagner head coach Chirstopher Fourman was tabbed the Coach of the Year.
Joining Riber on the first team are Holzwarth, Ester Park (FDU), and Lisa Warrilow (FDU), and Anna Palsson (LIU). On the second team along with Bergin are Mariana Juaristi (FDU), Jenna Rinker (RMU), Elizabeth Wenger (RMU), and Colligan.
