FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart field hockey team released its 2013 schedule on Thursday. The Pioneers will play seven home games at Campus Field beginning Friday, Sept. 13 against La Salle.
"I'm really excited about our 2013 season," said head coach Katie Kloeckener. "We have a very well-rounded incoming freshman class, and our returners have laid a great foundation for us to build upon. I look forward to our upcoming fall schedule, as we've added a few new non-conference teams to the schedule which will hopefully prepare us better for our conference match-ups. We definitely expect to grow from last year, and challenge for a conference championship."
Sacred Heart will open the upcoming season on Friday, August 30 at Towson. On the following day, the Pioneers will travel to Villanova. The Pioneers wrap up their four-game road trip to open the season Sept. 7 at Yale and Sept. 8 at Hofstra. After the home opener against La Salle on Sept. 13, Sacred Heart will travel to Holy Cross for a game on Sept. 15.
The Pioneers return to Campus Field on Wednesday, Sept. 18 for a game against crosstown rival Fairfield. After a road weekend at Albany and Temple, Sacred Heart will play four of its next five games at home starting with a matchup with Lehigh on Oct. 4. The Pioneers will also host Lock Haven, Saint Francis U, and Robert Morris during that stretch as well. Sacred Heart then travels to Monmouth on Oct. 25 and Rider on Oct. 27. The season wraps up with a home game against Siena on Nov. 1 before a road contest at Bryant on Nov. 3.
The conference tournament will be held Nov. 8-9.
