(Fairfield, CT) - The Northeast Regional round of the NCAA Fencing Championships took place at Boston College's Flynn Field House on Sunday. Freshman epee fencer Megan Floyd placed 8th and earned a qualifying slot for the NCAA Championship. She will be joined by All-American saber fencer Marty Williams and men's team captain Stuart Holmes in foil at the event. This is the first time that three Pioneers and fencers from both the mens and womens teams qualified for the same NCAA Championships final. Other results of note include epeeist Natalie Rossetti who placed 14th, saberist Elena Tringa who was 16th and team captain Jayme Smith who was 22nd in foil.
"This was a great day for Megan Floyd", comments head coach Dr. Thomas Vrabel. "Megan had a very successful freshman season and she has been improving all year. I felt that Megan and Natalie had a good chance of getting a qualifying slot if they could make the final 12. Megan fenced strong to make it to the final round and Natalie missed by only one touch from getting there as well. This was a wonderful performance for our epee fencers. I feel that Megan will be very competitive next week at the Championship"
The NCAA Fencing Championships will be held at the Ohio State University indoor track facility with the women's competition on March 22-23 and the men's competition on March 24-25.
