Pioneers Qualify for USBC Championship
The Sacred Heart Women's Bowling team finished fourth amongst a field of 17 women's teams knocking down a total of 12,127 over 64 backer games this weekend at the USBC section qualifiers in Allentown, Penn. this weekend guaranteeing them a spot in the 2013 xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships, which will be held April 18-20 at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb.. Senior Jackie Carbonetto (Blauvelt, N.Y.) finished third out of 125 bowling in the Individual Sectionals on Friday, qualifying her for the Individual Championships.
Carbonetto tossed 1249 on Friday for her third place finish. She threw her high game of 249 in the fifth game of the six-game day, while averaging 208.17 for the day. Teammate Nicole Trudell (Coventry, R.I.) nearly missed the cut coming in fifth.
Throughout the weekend, as NCAA teams were placed on the same pair during a set of four baker games, they competed in a match. The Pioneers had five NCAA matches this weekend, those of which were against Kutztown, Saint Francis U, LIU Brooklyn and Ursuline College. Sacred Heart went 3-2 in those matches, picking up wins over Ursuline (839-760), and conference opponents Saint Francis U (744-670) and LIU Brooklyn (786-771).
The Pioneers qualified alongside Webber International, Pikeville and Kutztown in Allentown. Fellow Northeast Conference members just missed the cut with LIU Brooklyn coming in fifth and Saint Francis U finishing sixth.
The tournament was based upon total pinfall in 64 baker matches over the two days. All collegiate teams and individuals registered with the USBC, no matter what division, were invited to participate in the sectional qualifiers held in four locations across the country.
