Women's Bowling Goes 4-5 at Second NEC Tournament

After an impressive showing last weekend, the Sacred Heart Women's Bowling Team went 4-5 this weekend at the second Northeast Conference Meet of the Year. Combined with the first meet, where the Pioneers went 3-6, they are now 7-11 in conference. Jackie Carbonetto (Blauvelt, N.Y.) led the team, averaging 200.6 per match for the weekend.

The Pioneers opened the tournament with a great team win, 985-920, over New Jersey City University, but followed up with two losses to Monmouth (880-866) and Saint Francis U (912-866). Carbonetto struck 75% of the time (12-for-16) in the match against Monmouth.

Sacred Heart finished the day with two wins to go 3-2 on Day 1. Senior Jacqueline Willy shined when moved to the fourth spot in the line up against St. Francis Brooklyn. She filled all ten frames, ending with four strikes, which helped the team to the 912-866 rout of the Terriers.

Carbonetto had her best match of the day as SHU rounded out the day with a 955-880 over Adelphi.

Sacred Heart opened 22% of the time on the second day, averaging just 180. They only won one match on Day 2, going 1-3. Their only win coming against Saint Peter's 883-823.

"We looked great last weekend, 4 out of the 5 playing each match looked to be at the top of their game," said Head Coach Becky Kregling. "This weekend was the opposite.  There were matches in which only 1 of the 5 were executing well, which led to a very ugly weekend."

The Pioneers take next weekend off, and then hit the lanes February 16-17 in Townson, Md.
