The Sacred Heart women's bowling team made a successful return to the lanes after the holiday break, capturing a pair of tournament titles over the weekend. Pioneer bowlers dominated the leaderboards in both the Suffolk Invitational and Viking Classic as each tournament also consisted of singles and doubles events. "These tournaments are a great opportunity for everyone on the roster to get valuable experience on the lanes," commented head coach Becky Kregling.
The Pioneers started the weekend Saturday afternoon with the Suffolk Invitational in Bayshore, NY. Nicole Trudell (Coventry, RI) and Jackie Carbonetto (Blauvelt, NY) won the doubles portion of the tournament as the duo combined to shoot 1220 over three games. The pair also finished one-two in the all-events standings as Sacred Heart knocked off USBC's 13th ranked team, Briarcliffe, in the final. Carbonetto, who also topped the singles leaderboard with a 637 series, won the tournament with a 1237 over her six games of the afternoon. Trudell finished second in the final standings, shooting 1170 for the tournament.
Sacred Heart then returned to Connecticut for the Viking Classic held in Wallingford, CT. This time it was Sarah Pelletier (Lewiston, ME) and Savannah Zientara (Lewiston, NY) won the doubles event with a score of 1225. Zientara also took second in the all-events section while freshman Jacqueline Willy (Clarence, NY) finished second in the singles event with a 641 series. SHU overcame a 189 pin deficit heading into baker games but again rallied past Briarcliffe for the tournament crown.
The Pioneers return to action this weekend in the biggest tournament of the regular season at the Kutztown Invitational.
