Women's Basketball Taking Off For Ireland

FAIRFIELD, CONN. (August 12, 2013)—The Sacred Heart women's basketball team is crossing the pond to the Emerald Isle Monday night. New Head Coach Jessica Mannetti will lead the Pioneers in four exhibition games in Ireland before returning home on August 22.

The 10-day trip will give the team experience on and off the court, as they will travel to the Dingle Peninsula, Waterford, Cork and Dublin.

Sacred Heart returns three starters for the 2013-14 season in seniors Ericka Norman (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Enjoli Bland (Queen Creek, Ariz.), and junior Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.). Washington, a second team All-NEC pick in 2012-13, led the team in scoring her sophomore season averaging 16.7 points per game. Norman earned All-NEC third team honors after averaging 6.9 assists per ranking her sixth in the nation. Bland provided a strong post presence for SHU, leading the team with 6.9 rebounds per game, and consistently ranking in the top 15 in the league throughout the season.

The trip offers Mannetti and her staff a first glimpse of the Class of 2017. Adaysha Williams (LaCross, Wis.), Victoria Blackburn (Hershey, Penn.), Shelby Hickey (Littleton, Colo.) and Caitlyn Abela (South Easton, Mass.) will get their first taste of game action.
