A trio of Pioneers picked up All-Northeast Conference nods Thursday morning. Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) was named to the All-NEC Second Team for the second year in a row, while Kiley Evans (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and Ericka Norman (Chino Hills, Calif.) were named to the All-NEC Third Team.
Washington, the 2012 NEC Rookie of the Year, has led the Pioneers all season in scoring, currently averaging 16.6 points per game, finishing the regular season third in the league. The sophomore posted 10 20-plus point performances, including three consecutive 22-point games against Quinnipiac, Saint Francis U and Central Conn. State. Her high free throw percentage, 92.5% by the end of the season, led the NEC all season and was consistently in the top three in the Division I ranks.
Evans had a bounce back season in 2012-13 and earned her second All-NEC nod today. As a freshman, she was named to the All-Rookie team. The senior was a constant scorer for the Pioneers, finishing the season second on the team averaging 11.6 points per game. She was named the Choice Hotels/NEC Player of the Week on January 29 after a 45-point weekend against Monmouth and Bryant. The Cazenovia, N.Y. native reached set a new career high lighting up the board with 29 points against Lehigh in a game where she shot 55.5% (10-18) from the floor and 62.5% (5-8) from downtown.
Norman led the league this season in assists and steals. The crafty point guard finished the regular season averaging 7.2 assists and 3.8 steals per game. Early in the season in the Preseason WNIT, she posted back-to-back 13-assist games against Sam Houston State and Liberty. Seven games later, she topped herself, posting 14 in the Pioneers' win at Lehigh. She got the honor of Choice Hotels/NEC Player of the Week on January 22 after she flirted with a triple-double (eight rebounds, nine assists and seven steals) against then unbeaten Saint Francis U, and a double-double (eight assists and six steals) two days later against Robert Morris.
The Pioneers open the NEC Tournament Sunday at 2:00 p.m. when they host St. Francis Brooklyn in the quarterfinal round.
