This weekend the Sacred Heart Women's Basketball Team heads west to celebrate Thanksgiving in Seattle, Wa. and play in the Washington Dental Thanksgiving Tournament hosted by Seattle University. Friday, the Pioneers face Boston College at 6:00 p.m.
Setting the Scene... Sacred Heart come into the Washington Dental Thanksgiving Tournament riding the momentum of a 79-34 win over Saint Peter's Tuesday night. The Pioneers are still in the hunt for their first Division I victory over Boston College, having lost the last three meetings with the Eagles.
Series Notes... This is the fifth time in program history that the Pioneers have faced off against Boston College. Sacred Heart won the first meeting back in 1979, 60-48, but has yet to win another. Since joining the Division I ranks, the teams have faced off three times, twice in Boston and once at the Travelers Junkaroo Jamboree in the Bahamas. The Eagles took the victory in all three of those games. No matter which team the Pioneers play on Saturday, it will be a first. Sacred Heart has not played Seattle or Portland in the program's 38 year history.
Marginal Victory... Tuesday night, the Pioneers topped Saint Peter's by 45 points, 79-34. This was their first 40-plus point victory since February 20, 2006 when Sacred Heart defeated Fairleigh Dickinson by exactly 40 points, 84-44.
