Fairfield, Conn.—The 2012 Northeast Conference Champion Sacred Heart Women's Basketball Team was honored at halftime of the Homecoming football game Saturday afternoon. The team's returning players took the field to receive their championship rings.
With a record of 15-3 in the NEC, 24-8 overall, Sacred Heart was named the Regular Season Champions giving them home-court advantage throughout the tournament. On March 11, the Pioneers defeated the Monmouth Hawks 58-48 capturing their third NEC Championship and bid into the NCAA Tournament. In Chapel Hill, N.C., SHU was knocked out by Georgia Tech 76-50 in the first round.
The Pioneers follow up a tremendous season with a trip to the Preseason WNIT to start the 2012-13 season. On November 9, Sacred Heart will take on Georgetown in the first round.
