Sacred Heart Hosts Robert Morris in Final Game of the Regular Season
The Storyline... The last time Sacred Heart faced the Colonials, the Pioneers were down by 18, but overcame the deficit to come out with the 71-64 win, so the Colonials, who are riding the momentum of a five-game winning streak, are looking for revenge and a chance to split the season series. Both teams have already clinched a spot in the Northeast Conference Tournament, but are still fighting to determine what seed they will be. Sacred Heart's 66-61 win over Saint Francis (PA) on Saturday boosted them to the top spot in the league, while the Colonials are currently tied with Monmouth for third place.
The Series...The Pioneers lead the all-time series 15-7 after claiming victory in the last matchup. Robert Morris picked up the win in the first meeting on Dec. 12, 2000 58-55. However, Sacred Heart has won four of the last five games against the Colonials. The last time Robert Morris won was February 18, 2010 at home in the Charles L. Sewall Center. The Pioneers are 8-3 when playing Robert Morris at home in the Pitt Center.
Scouting the the Colonials... Robert Morris comes into Monday's game on a five-game winning streak. Extremely strong offensively, the Colonials have three of the top-ten leading scorers in the Northeast Conference. Artemis Spanou leads averaging a double-double with 16.8 points and 10.9 rebounds. Mary Durojaye, Briannica Tye and April Williams are also averaging double-digit scoring. The Colonials are second in the league in scoring averaging 68.0 points per game.
Gabby's Hot Hand... In Saturday's 66-61 win over Saint Francis (PA), freshman Gabrielle Washington lit up the board with 25 points. She shot 45.0% from the field, including being a perfect two-for-two from outside the arc. She also shot 100% from the charity stripe, hitting all five free throw attempts. This is Washington's nineteenth double-digit scoring game and her fifth 20-plus point performance.
