The Storyline... Sacred Heart snapped their three-game losing streak on Saturday with the 74-59 win over Long Island Univerity Brooklyn. With the victory, the Pioneers remain undefeated in conference play this season. The Terriers' story is a tad bit different. St. Francis has yet to win an NEC game this year, and only has one win in its 14 games, againt the Columbia Lions 48-44
The Series...The Pioneers lead the all-time series against the Terriers 19-9 with most of St. Francis (NY)'s wins being before the teams went Division I. The last time Sacred Heart lost to St. Francis (NY) was on Feb. 13, 2010 by one point, 64-63. In the last three meetings, the Pioneers have outscored the Terriers by an average of 22 points.
Scouting the Terriers... St. Francis comes into Monday's game having only won one game this season, beating Columbia 48-44 back in November. Opponents are outscoring the Terriers by an average of 14.7 points. Rookies Jaymee Veney and Jessica Kaufman lead the team in scoring averaging 9.6 and 9.2 points per game respectively. In the three conference games the Terriers have played this year, Veney is averagaing 12.7 ppg. She also leads with 5.5 rebounds per game.
Gabby's Gettin' It Done...Against Long Island Brooklyn on Saturday, Gabrielle Washington put 21 points on the board shooting 70% (7-10) from the field. The rookie is an offensive force having only three games without double-digit points. She is averaging 12.2 points per game and a 45.9 field goal percentage. The guard lit up the scoreboard with a career-high 24 points in the win against Cal Poly on December 11. Because of her hot hands, Washington has been named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week three times this season, including the first two weeks of the season.
