In the poll released yesterday, College Insider's Mid-Major poll ranked SHU women's hoops 24th out of 25. This is the first time the Pioneers have ranked in the poll this season.
Sacred Heart is off to its best start in program history with a 9-1 record and have defeated all but one opponent (Quinnipiac) by double digit figures in each of the nine wins. The Pioneers led by Callan Taylor (Overland Park, Kan.) (17.3 ppg) and freshman Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) (12.3 ppg) are averaging 67.3 points per game.
The Pioneers and Robert Morris (25) are the only teams that represent the Northeast Conference in the rankings. Long Island also received votes, but not enough to make the list.
In October, Taylor was the only NEC player named to a preseason Mid-Major fourth All-American team.
The Mid-Major polls ranks teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast conferences.
The Pioneers head to Albany this weekend to take on the Great Danes Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
